Convert Between Memory / Storage Units

Memory / Storage Converter

The Memory / Storage Unit Converter is a tool  designed to perform conversion between various units used to measure computer memory capacity, data storage volume, or file size.

How To Use

  1. Enter Value: Begin by entering the value you wish to convert into the field at the top of the page.
  2. Select Original Units: Choose the original units using the “From” dropdown list.
  3. Select Target Units: Choose the desired units for the conversion from the “To” dropdown list.
  4. Click on the 'Convert” button to perform the transformation and obtain the result.

Computer Memory Capacity / Data Volume Units

  • Bit (b): The smallest unit, representing a binary digit (0 or 1).
  • Byte (B): Comprises of 8 bits. It is a fundamental unit used in most computer systems.

Decimal-Based Units:

  • Kilobyte (KB): 1 KB = 1000 bytes
  • Megabyte (MB): 1 MB = 1000 KB
  • Gigabyte (GB): 1 GB = 1000 MB
  • Terabyte (TB): 1 TB = 1000 GB
  • Petabyte (PB): 1 PB = 1000 TB

Binary-Based Units:

  • Kibibyte (KiB): 1 KiB = 1024 bytes
  • Mebibyte (MiB): 1 MiB = 1024 KiB
  • Gibibyte (GiB): 1 GiB = 1024 MiB
  • Tebibyte (TiB): 1 TiB = 1024 GiB
  • Pebibyte (PiB): 1 PiB = 1024 TiB

The correlation between binary-based and decimal-based storage unit prefixes is based on powers of 2 and 10, respectively. The binary-based units use binary prefixes (kibi, mebi, gibi, tebi, etc.) to avoid confusion with decimal-based units (kilo, mega, giga, tera, etc.).
